The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is one of the oldest and largest public health agencies in the world, dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of all New Yorkers. The Division of Information Technology (DIT) aims to align technology solutions with the DOHMH’s mission by prioritizing resource use and deploying innovations that facilitate the agency’s day-to-day activities, while enhancing staff productivity and efficiency. Our goal is to provide users with a reliable, stable, and safe computing environment.  (DIT) provides the technological infrastructure, systems, and digital solutions necessary to support the agency’s critical public health missions, data operations, and administrative functions. DOHMH’s IT research work combines public health science with advanced information technology to improve disease prevention, surveillance, health policy, and business systems.

DOHMH’s IT Research prioritizes the following goals:

  • Timely Public Health Data and Information using IT to enhance disease detection, prevention, and control for the protection of all New Yorkers. 
  • Utilization of IT Tools to optimize business services and systems to improve operational efficiency.
  • Robust IT Infrastructure and the integration of new technologies to support public health science and practice.
  • Employing secure and innovative information systems to advance public health science, improve data access, and support evidence‑based decision‑making.
  • Application of healthcare data analytics to transform health information into actionable insights for better healthcare service delivery, operational efficiency, and policy decisions.

Currently we are recruiting for the following high-priority IT Research Titles: Public Health IT Economist Analyst; Public Health GIS & Data Analytics Specialist; Public Health Service Management Specialist; Health Information Technology Manager; Public Health IT Application Specialist; Public Health Dat Systems Developer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

City Research Scientist I

To be appointed to Assignment Level I, candidates must have officially graduated from an accredited IT program and be in possession of a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Health Information Technology, Medical Informatics, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Networking & Telecommunications, Software Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.

City Research Scientist II and above

To be appointed to Assignment Level II and higher, in addition to meeting the academic requirements referenced above, candidates must be in possession of at least 3 years or more of applicable scientific research in an appropriate field of Computer Science, Information Science, Health Information Technology, Medical Informatics, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Networking & Telecommunications, Software Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
