| Robert and Max Bookman of Pesetsky & Bookman, the Alliance’s general and legislative counsel, have an alcohol update following the State Liquor Authority’s May 13 Board meeting.
We are pleased to announce that the State Liquor Authority has extended its COVID policy of license fee deferrals for bars and restaurants. Previously, SLA permitted bars and restaurants with licenses expiring in the end of March and April to defer payment of their license fees to May 31, 2020. SLA has now extended that deadline to July 31, 2020. In addition, SLA is now permitting bars and restaurants with licenses expiring in the end of May and June to also defer payment of their license fees to July 31, 2020. Any bar or restaurant that decides to defer their license fees must still file a complete and proper renewal application with SLA in a timely manner in order for their license to be renewed on time. The only thing being deferred is the payment, not the deadline for filing the application. On that note, Community Board notification deadlines have also not been deferred. We thank Liquor Authority Chairman Vincent Bradley, Governor Cuomo, and the SLA staff and Full Board for continuing to support policies that benefit bars and restaurants during this unprecedented time. |
