NYC Sanitation Announces Collection Schedule for Election Day and Veterans Day 2022

(Editor’s Note: In short, no collection on Election Day, and regular collection on Veterans Day)

In an effort to offer efficient service and keep the City, clean, safe and healthy, and due to the rare calendar anomaly of two federal holidays falling within the same week, the NYC Department of Sanitation has announced modifications to its collection schedule for the week containing Election Day and Veterans Day.

Election Day:

The New York City Department of Sanitation announced that in observance of Election Day, Tuesday, November 8, 2022, there will be NO trash, curbside composting nor recycling collection on the holiday.

• Residents who normally receive Tuesday trash or curbside composting collection may place their material at the curb between 4 p.m. and midnight Tuesday evening, for collection beginning Wednesday. However, residents should expect collection delays, as is common after holidays. We appreciate patience as we work to collect the backlog of material.
• Residents who normally receive Tuesday recycling collection should hold their material, and place their items out at curbside between 4 p.m. and midnight on Monday, November 14 for pickup on Tuesday, November 15.

Veterans Day:

The New York City Department of Sanitation announced that there will be trash, curbside composting and recycling collection on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11, 2022.

• Residents who normally receive Friday trash, curbside composting or recycling collection may place their material at the curb between 4 p.m. and midnight Thursday evening, for collection beginning Friday. Residents may experience collection delays, as is common after holidays. We appreciate patience as we work to collect the material.

If Tuesday is your trash/compost day: put items out between 4pm-midnight Tuesday, for pickup starting Wednesday, 11/9.

If Tuesday is your recycling day: put items out Monday, 11/14 for pickup Tuesday, 11/15.

If Friday is your trash, recycling or compost day: follow your normal schedule and set out your material Thursday night for pickup Friday, 11/11.
