In New York State, you cannot be evicted at least until May 1, 2021, if you have experienced financial hardship or face health risks because of COVID-19.

To be protected from eviction, you must submit a notice called a Tenant’s Declaration of Hardship. If you are behind on your rent, click here to use our automatic form to submit your declaration.

Our fight is far from over. If tenants didn’t stand up and fight, we wouldn’t have some of the strongest COVID eviction protections in the country today. Our communities need a fresh start to recover from this pandemic. We have a few months before landlords can begin filing evictions. We need to turn up the heat and make sure the back rent gets canceled altogether.
