Council Member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr. is excited to embark on the sixth cycle of  Participatory Budgeting with his colleagues and thousands of volunteers across New York City. Last year was our inaugural year and we were pleased to have nearly 700 people ages 14 and up submit ideas and vote for the PB project of their choice. In the end, we spent over one million dollars improving our schools, parks, playgrounds and providing security cameras in our NYCHA developments.

This year, our goal is to increase participation and make the entire process more inclusive from idea collection through evaluation. This is where you come in! We are forming a District Committee to work in partnership with the Council Member’s Office to ensure PB’s success in our district. The District Committee is responsible for (a) planning events, (b) engaging the public, and (c) ensuring the process is equitable.

For your consideration, we have attached the following materials about the PB process:

After reviewing these materials, we hope you will consider joining the District Committee as we believe PB is yet another strategy for improving our community. We think it is essential to have members of the Community Board participate in the process. If you are interesting in serving on the committee, please email the attached District Committee Membership Statement of Interest to my attention at szinerman@council.nyc.gov or fax it to (718) 857-2555 by Friday, September 2, 2016.

All the best,

Stefani Zinerman, Chief of Staff
