As many of you are aware, CB 8 was slated for organics collection services starting next month. Unfortunately, the Dept. of Sanitation has suspended expansion efforts until such time as the program is streamlined for more efficiency. As quoted by the Dept. of Sanitation, which was expected to make a presentation on organics collection at the June general meeting, “The City is currently evaluating the curbside organics program with the goal of increasing efficiency and streamlining the program at all levels, in order to ensure New Yorkers are getting the very best service when curbside organics collection reaches their neighborhoods. We expect to have a modified expansion schedule at the conclusion of this evaluation, which should be in coming months.  It includes all upcoming districts. ”

As soon as we receive word from Sanitation that the program is operating in accordance with their expectations, we will make sure to inform the community. Please note however, that the City has not scrapped organics collection. It will continue and we will be the next round of the program as initially scheduled.
