If property owners have unpaid property taxes or water/sewer charges, the lien sale allows the City of New York to sell the unpaid charges to a third party to collect on the debt. While the property is not sold, this can be the first step toward foreclosure if not addressed. Property owners at risk of being included in the upcoming lien sale have already received warning notices by mail.
DEP wants to work with property owners, and we offer flexible payment plans. Property owners on the lien sale list can get off the list immediately by making a minimum payment or entering into a payment agreement for as little as 0% down, but property owners must act before June 2nd! Customers can look up their minimum payment amount online by visiting nyc.gov/dep/liensale.
