First Tech Fund is supporting 85 NYC high school students with free computer devices, WiFi, mentorship, and practical curriculum for its 2021-2022 program starting in September 2021. Applications are due August 2nd at firsttechfund.com/apply
 
First Tech Fund is a nonprofit dedicated to closing the digital divide by supporting high school students of underserved backgrounds in New York City with technology, practical skills, and opportunities to succeed in the modern world. 
  • Overview: First Tech Fund’s Fellowship program is a year-long intensive mentorship and enrichment program that pairs high school students with mentors from leading companies in NYC. In addition to dedicated mentorship, First Tech Fund provides weekly webinars and workshops to build practical skills like public speaking, resume writing, as well as panel discussions on careers in a number of fields like law, medicine, finance, healthcare, creative writing, public service, and more. 
  • Last year, out of 52 students in First Tech Fund’s inaugural cohort 95% of seniors committed to 2 or 4-year schools like Cornell University, Borough of Manhattan Community College, University of Notre Dame, Columbia University, and more. First Tech Fund sophomores and juniors were accepted into programs like Hamilton Scholars and Questbridge. 
  • This year, the program is expanding to 85 students who will each get a free laptop and a WiFi hotspot. Students are encouraged to apply here by August 2nd. 
  • Eligibility: Incoming 9th-12th grade students who do not own a personal computer and reside in the five boroughs of NYC are encouraged to apply. Students who are enrolled to start college in the fall are not eligibleYou do not need to be a US citizen, but you must attend a school in NYC full time to be considered.
