The NYC Department of Transportation will install Electric Vehicles( EV) chargers in Community Board 8 this summer. Studies have shown that the lack of publicly accessible charging infrastructure is a barrier to the adoption of EVs. Locating chargers at the curb provides support for current and future EV owners at a cost competitive with gasoline and cleaner air for all community members. NYC DOT is working in partnership with Con Edison to install 50 public Level 2 EV chargers at curbside locations across the five boroughs.  The chargers will be in place for up to four years as part of a demonstration project, which will include an evaluation.

A total of 2 charging posts will be installed in the district and each post will be able to charge two vehicles, which will require NYC DOT to repurpose 4 parking spaces with the “EV Charging Only” regulation.

Installations are expected to begin in late summer 2020. We will notify you when we have definitive construction dates.

If you have any further questions, please contact the Department of Transportation.
