It has been brought to the attention of CB 8 staff that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is currently conducting inspections of trees on private property (read: backyads, sideyards, front yards–anywhere a tree might be) to inspect for the invasive species, the Asian Longhorn Beetle. Brooklyn is home to many of the beetle’s favorite trees to munch on, and the entirety of District 8 is part of the 110 mile quarantine zone. Below are some links to help you understand why inspections are necessary and also what you can look for to know if any tree on your property is infested with the beetle.

If a USDA inspector comes to your property asking for permission to inspect trees in your private areas, please let them in (after verifying their identification of course) and encourage your neighbors to do the same.
