New Lien Sale Deadline June 2, 2025

Posted: May 16, 2025 The Lien Sale deadline has now been moved to June 2, 2025.  Please spread the word to help NYC property owners avoid this spring’s (Click Here)  lien sale before June 2nd. If property owners have unpaid property taxes or water/sewer charges, the lien sale allows the City of New York to sell the unpaid charges to a third party to collect on the debt. While the property is not sold, this can be the first step toward foreclosure if not addressed. Property owners at risk of being included in the upcoming lien sale have already received warning notices by mail.  DEP wants to work with property owners, and we offer flexible payment plans. Property owners on the lien sale list can get off the list immediately by making a minimum payment or entering into a payment agreement for as little as 0% down, but property owners must act before June 2nd! Customers can look up their minimum payment amount online by visiting nyc.gov/dep/liensale. Property owners may be eligible for relief programs, including: Lien Sale Easy Exit Program Water Debt Assistance Program Property owners can log onto their MyRead More

Join your local Community Board!!!!

Posted: December 11, 2024 Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso today opened applications for city residents to join Brooklyn’s 18 community boards. Community boards, the most grassroots level of local government, are local bodies that weigh in on topics ranging from local land use matters to liquor licenses, transportation projects, and more. With 18 community districts, Brooklyn has the most community boards of all five boroughs, each one comprised of up to 50 volunteers who live, work, or have a significant interest in their community. Now through February 14, 2025, eligible New York City residents 16 years and older are encouraged to learn more and apply at https://www.brooklynbp.nyc.gov/community-boards/ “When community boards reflect the people they represent and are equipped with a full suite of information, expertise, and resources, they become a true venue for community power,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. “While Brooklyn is on the way, we still have work to do to address the underrepresentation of certain groups on our boards. I hope we see more applications from renters, mass transit users, young people, skilled trade workers, and public housing residents –Read More

FDNY Thanksgiving Safety Tips!

Posted: November 25, 2024 Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate with family, friends and food! But it’s also a time to be safe as we celebrate with loved ones. Cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires and fire injuries, and unattended cooking accounts for one third of these fires.   It’s important to be #FDNYSmart this Thanksgiving. Here are some safety tips for the holiday: Stay in the kitchen. Don’t leave cooking food unattended.  STAND BY YOUR PAN. Wear short or tight-fitting sleeves. Long sleeves are more likely to catch on fire or get caught on pot handles. Keep the area around the stove clear of towels, papers, potholders and anything that can burn. Cook at indicated temperature settings rather than higher settings. Keep a pot lid nearby to smother a pan fire. Do not attempt to pick up the pot or pan. Shut off the heat and cover the fire with a lid. Do not use water. It will cause splashing and spread the fire. Treat burns immediately with cool running water. During Thanksgiving, some people decide to use deep fryers for their turkeysRead More

FDNY Brush Fire Safety Education Tips

Posted: November 15, 2024 FDNY Brush Fire Safety Education Tips Brush fires can happen anywhere. While many think of brush fires as more common in dry, rural areas, the City’s parks, greenways and other vegetated spaces can also be susceptible to fire, especially during prolonged periods of dry weather.  With the recent rise in brush fires, the FDNY is urging all residents to stay informed and prepared, as these fires can be highly dangerous and spread rapidly in dry conditions. Below are essential safety tips to ensure New Yorkers help reduce the risk of these incidents: Help Reduce the Risk: ·         Avoid outdoor burning, including campfires, bonfires, and any other open flames ·         Grilling is banned in New York City parks while drought conditions persist ·         If you smoke outdoors, be mindful and always dispose of cigarette butts and matches properly ·         Stay on designated trails when enjoying our parks to protect surrounding vegetation and reduce the risk of accidental fires ·         Remember, fireworks are illegal across New York City ·         Remove litter and any excessive brush or leaves from sidewalks abutting residences and businesses. Stay vigilant and help keepRead More

New Sanitation Rules!!!!

Posted: October 21, 2024 To remove the mountains of black bags on NYC streets, reclaim public space, and improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers, DSNY has announced a plan to containerize all residential trash beginning Fall 2024.  Beginning November 12, 2024, all properties with 1-9 residential units will be required to use bins, 55 gallons or less, with secure lids for trash.  If you already use a bin with a secure lid that is 55 gallons or less, you may continue to use it until June 2026. After that, you will need to switch to the official NYC Bin.  Buildings with 31 or more residential units will be required to use stationary, on-street containers for their trash. On-street containers will be assigned to a specific building solely for residents of that building. Buildings with 10 to 30 units can choose between stationary on-street containers and smaller wheelie bins.  Click HERE for more information.
