Our mission is simple: every Brooklyn public school student gets the opportunity to learn to code at school. We will achieve the goal in the course of the next seven years.
Hour of Code Brooklyn (December 7 - 13)
Brooklyn
does big and great things. The Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams,
has challenged Brooklyn to the audacious goal of doing an "Hour of Code"
event at EVERY Brooklyn public school this year. That's about 500
schools. "Hour of Code" is held during Computer Science Education Week
(December 7 to December 13).
To participate a school needs
to commit that one class dedicate at least one class period to computer
science activities during Computer Science Education Week, though we
encourage schools do to longer and larger activities with entire grades
or even school-wide.
We're here to help:
Volunteer for "HOUR OF CODE"
We're recruiting volunteers who work in the technology industry and who would like to either help us plan "Hour of Code" activities in Brooklyn or conduct "Hour of Code" activities with in-service teachers in Brooklyn schools. If you're a technology professional interested in helping us reach our goal of an "Hour of Code" in every Brooklyn school, let us know here.
How to Run an "HOUR OF CODE" at YOUR SCHOOL
We've created a couple very handy resources to help ensure you have a successful "Hour of Code" at your school:
Get Involved
A growing list of Computer Science resources for Parents and Educators, including and especially to run "Hour of Code"
Let us know if your Brooklyn school would like to get more involved with Computer Science and the upcoming Hour of Code
There are many ways to get involved. You don't need to know how to code or know how to teach CS to help in this effort.
