Landmarks Preservation Commission
Application Guidelines
1. All applicants must supply plans for their venture to the District office at least 30 days prior to the Community Board meeting that lands before their Landmark Preservation Committee public hearing.
The Community Board meets on the second Thursday of every month. This time will ensure that the Board receives all necessary documentation before taking a position and issuing a letter to LPC regarding the position taken.
It will also ensure that ample time is allotted for the applicant to make necessary presentations and contact any and all parties involved with the process.
2. All applications must provide documentation that the immediate adjacent neighbors have been notified of all plans. Documentation must be received in writing by the Community Board office but does not have to express either support or opposition to the plans.
3. In addition to contacting the adjacent neighbors, applicants must also contact the block association on the block. Just like with the neighbors, written documentation does not have to either support or reject the plans.
If the applicant seeks to obtain a letter of support, he or she can do so, but the Board generally simply requires proof of notification.
4. Only if there is no block association on the block, can either the Crown Heights North Association or the Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council supply documentation of notification.
Please be advised that the preference of the Board is to receive documentation from the Block Association over either of these two organizations.
