Compliance Aide Position

 

The Department of Consumer Affairs, Tobacco Enforcement Division is looking to hire youth between 15 & 17 years of age. The role of Compliance Aide is crucial in helping the agency crack down on the sale of cigarettes to minors. The pay will be $8.50 per hour on a weekly basis.

 

Once selected for the Youth Program, minors must provide original documentation such as: Social Security card, certified birth certificate, working papers, non-driver's ID or valid student ID card, written parental consent and a school verification letter.

Responsibilities: Under supervision, incumbent utilizes various computer databases to perform substantial data processing, research and analysis of data in order to resolve customer complaints, relating to MetroCard issues received by mail, telephone or interoffice. Drafts responses to routine and complex MetroCard claims. As assigned by supervision, incumbent will explain Transit policies and procedures relating to MetroCard claims to customers by phone. Under supervision, incumbent may be assigned to the reconciliation/balancing processes within the unit. Incumbent will assist in maintaining filing system of physical records and under supervision, will sort/categorize in-coming claims from all sources.

Exper. & Educ.: 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or 2. An associate degree from an accredited college and one year of satisfactory, full-time experience in a customer service or public information capacity; or 3. A four-year high school diploma and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience in a customer service or public information capacity; or 4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above.

Desired Skills: Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Proficient knowledge of personal computer and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook). Keyboarding proficiency. Excellent telephone communication skills and customer service sensitivity are necessary. Strong organizational skills. Must have analytical and mathematical skills necessary to research and resolve MetroCard complaints.

Get Involved
There are several things you can do to get more involved in CB #8:

1.Report a complaint or request for service by contacting the District Office.

2. Attend meetings of the Community Board and ask to be put on the mailing list to get meeting notices.

3. Apply to become a Community Board Member. You can do so either by picking up an application at the Community Board's Office, contacting the Brooklyn Borough President's Office at 718-802-3700, or by contacting your local Council Member.
