issues affecting the District's senior citizen population
- Disseminate information about senior
citizen rights and entitlements
- Plan and coordinate the delivery
of services and senior citizen programs
- Interface with public and private
agencies that provide senior citizen services

DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

- Plan for community revitalization
projects in District 8
- Advise Community Board membership
on commercial and residential proposals being developed
- Discuss liquor applications--both
new and renewals--before the State Liquor Authority for
clubs, bars, restaurants, local grocery stores, and other
establishments in the District
- Disseminate information on economic
development to community residents
- Schedule public hearings pertaining
to proposed changes in district development

COMMITTEE

Meeting Day: 3rd Thursday of the month
Time: 7:00 PM

Responsibilities include the
following:
- Establish liaison/linkages
with community schools in order to improve school operations
and support educations priorities
- Help advocate the adequate
allocation of revenue for school services
- Develop a networking relationship
with the district's parochial, proprietary schools, and
colleges
- Assist schools in getting needed
City services and funding
ENVIRONMENT/SANITATION
COMMITTEE
Chairperson:
Ede Fox, Chair; Helen Coley, Co-Chair
Meeting day: 3rd Tuesday
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation

Responsibilities
include:
- • Comment on issues
pertaining to the protection of the District from air,
noise, and water pollution
• Keep abreast of new developments in water purification
treatments as well as of toxic substances which may threaten
drinking water and clean air
• Monitor service delivery for water supply, sewer
maintenance, catch basin cleaning and other related issues
• Recommend locations for the placement of hydrant
sprinkler caps for summer use
• Identify and report: air pollution problems caused
by local businesses or multiple dwellings; subway stations
that need cleaning; merchants, factories or residences
that do not package and/or dispose of their garbage properly;
noise polluters such as late night social clubs; unauthorized
construction on weekends or nights; sources of loud noise
at inconvenient hours
• Review and monitor sanitation services

FIRE/SAFETY

Place: Haitian American Day Care Center

Responsibilities include
the following:
- Discuss public safety issues with
community
- Discuss issues of concern with fire
and EMS representatives
- Meet with representatives
from Engine and Ladder Companies, and EMS officials to discuss
the needs for improving fire services in the community,
which would be included in the District's Budget Priorities

HEALTH/HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE
Chairperson: Marlene
Saunders, Chair ; Dr. Flize Bryan, Co-Chair
Meeting Day: 1st Monday of the Month
Time: 5:30 p.m.
Place: Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation

Responsibilities include
the following:
- Conduct human services needs assessment,
including services for health, youth, senior citizens, infants,
homeless, and the handicapped
- Monitor and evaluate the District's
public and private human services programs before consultations
and hearings
- Review proposals for human services
programs and make recommendations to the Community Board
- Establish strong working relationship
with area hospitals and health care centers to make sure
adequate services are provided to the community
- Entertain proposals from health
and/or human service providers including day cares, head
start programs, drug and alcohol treatment centers, mental
health facilities, transitional and supportive housing initiatives,
and others
- Work with health care providers
to obtain information and free screening services for residents
in the District

HOUSING/ULURP COMMITTEE

Granville, Chairperson
Meeting Day: 1st Thursday of the Month
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Place: Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation

Responsibilities include the
following:
- Identify needs and strategies for
neighborhood improvements
- Assess vacant buildings in the neighborhood
for possible seal-up or demolition
- Monitor inspection services of the
Dept. of Buildings and the Dept. of Housing Preservation
and Development (HPD)
- Establish budget priorities and
make recommendations to the Board on housing issues
- Monitor housing construction and
rehabilitation projects
- Make recommendations on the disposition
of City-owned property in the District
- Plan and conduct public hearings
on land use terms
- Assess local needs and take notice
of district changes, i.e., economic growth and housing
- Review ULURP (Uniform Land Use Review
Procedure) applications and make recommendations to the
full Board

| PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE

Meeting Day: 1st Tuesday of the Month

Place: St. John's Recreation Center

- Review and approve park designs

needs assessment for parks and recreational services in
the District

for recreational and cultural projects

SAFETY COMMITTEE

- Arrange meetings with community
residents, business and civic groups to discuss public safety
issues

officials

safety issues

TRAFFIC & TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE
Chairperson: Dr. Frederick
Monderson, Chair
Meeting Day: 4th Tuesday of the Month
Time: 7:00 p.m.

Please Note: For
the months of Oct, Jan and April
the Transportation Committee will meet at Haitian
American Day Care Center, 1491 Bedford Avenue corner
of St. John's Place.
The November and December
meetings will be held on the 3rd Tuesday, November 20th.
and December 18th.
Responsibilities include the
following:
- Keep abreast of all transportation
issues within the District
- Monitor quality and quantity
of transportation services within the District, including
services of City and franchised buses, subways, elevated
trains, and commuter travel services
- Develop transportation
budget priorities for the Board's consideration
- Review scopes and design
for capital projects and report to the Board

| YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES COMMITTEE

- Conduct district-wide youth services

- Develop plans for filling gaps in
youth services
- Compile list of possible funding

employment, substance abuse, education, and recreation
