Welcome

ATLANTIC AVE VIADUCT REHAB

Atlantic Avenue Viaduct which has carried Long Island Railroad (LIRR) trains and customers between Jamaica Queens and Downtown Brooklyn since 1901 is undergoing a major rehabilitation from October 2008-End of 2011.

The viaduct stretches about a mile and a half along Atlantic Avenue from Ralph Avenue to Nostrand Avenue. The first phase of the Atlantic Avenue Viaduct Rehab project is a $93.4 million dollar investment to keep Brooklyn connected.

Being a good neighbor is important to the LIRR. The goal is to complete this project with the least amount of inconvenience for riders, residents and businesses in the surrounding community. The LIRR has devised a work plan to minimize the impact on Brooklyn.

- Demolition and replacement work will be done on weekends only, a total of 36 weekends during the 16 month period for Phase I. The weekend work will begin on Friday night and continue through Saturday and Sunday.

- The LIRR will maintain regular train service throughout the project.

- To ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists, the NYC Department of Transportation has agreed to provide Traffic Enforcement Agents at key locations while the work is underway.

If for any reason you need to contact the LIRR for information or assistance, please call the LIRR's Public Affairs Department at 718-558-8228 and ask to speak to a manager.
